</div>I remember a day when, while organizing glasses in a cupboard, I noticed that when stacking them, the total height did not increase by the full height of a glass each time. Part of one glass fits into the previous one. This situation perfectly illustrates how mathematics can be found in very ordinary actions. An object as simple as a glass can turn into a small logic problem.
For centuries, mathematics has allowed us to transform everyday observations into precise reasoning. Measuring buildings, organizing spaces, designing objects that fit together, or optimizing their storage are all problems where numbers come into play. Today, these principles are applied in architecture, industry, design, and engineering. Mathematics teaches us to observe, compare, deduce, and methodically solve concrete situations.
“The essence of mathematics lies in its freedom.” — Georg Cantor
I particularly like this quote because it reminds us that a problem can often be approached in multiple ways. The key is to construct a coherent argument and be able to explain why our answer works.
What This Challenge Helps To Develop:
- Equation formulation
- Logical reasoning
- Identifying differences
- Solving for an unknown
- Observation and concentration
DAILY CHALLENGE
Find the height of a glass.
1 glass = ?
Answer: __________ cm
Watch out for the trap: when the glasses are stacked, they fit into each other. Therefore, you cannot simply divide 58 by 5.

What Your Performance Can Reveal
If you found the answer quickly and correctly, you have excellent logic and analytical skills.
If you found the answer after some thought, you know how to structure your reasoning and check your steps.
And if your answer was incorrect or you couldn’t find it, no worries; this type of exercise is perfect for improving your method and precision.
